Doing personalized rewards well

#1

Hi Everyone,

I saw an interesting tweet showing how GitLab sent a personalized note to a contributor. It looks like this:

I love this as it touches on some core best practice with rewarding community members:

  • People love extrinsic rewards (getting something in the mail!)
  • It is personalized to the individual.
  • It identifies status (which is important to most people.)
  • It is human due to the handwriting and not generated by an automated process.

Of course, this was just a simple note, but what other methods and approaches have you all used to reward people in a personalized way, and in particular, how have you done this efficiently?
