How Competition Affects Collaboration (and vice versa)


I would love to brainstorm about community strategy tips for dealing with competition. I’m sure there are lots of examples that could be shared and learned from.

I have had a few community members that seem to feed off of one another’s activity. One will create a blog post, the other will create an even more elaborate blog post on almost an exact topic.

How would/do you deal with that? What comes to mind from your community management experience? Is too much competition a community killer?


Wonderful topic, and one that I think needs delicate balance.

I have had some experience of building competition and gamification into communities, and when the balance is right, it works well…but when it is skewed…it can really demotivate people. Looking forward to this one!
