Leading meetings is hard

Let’s talk about leading meetings!

As background while I’ve been in open source and community management for a number of years, I still feel wildly uncomfortable leading meetings. I’ve never felt like I’ve gotten the hang of them and I’d assume others are the same way.

Topics could include:

  • Techniques for keeping a meeting on track in a positive manner
  • How do you lead a meeting when it’s not a topic or community you know much about? (Examples: non-technical CM leading an FLOSS technical team meeting)
  • How to feel comfortable (or less uncomfortable) leading meetings
  • Etc. (please suggest others!)

I really like this topic. Do you think it would help to discuss how to encourage balance in participation so it’s not just the ‘naturally vocal’ people contributing ideas?
