Lightning talks at CLS2015?

#1

Whenever you organize events like this, there is never enough time or space for all the wonderful sessions and people. Lightning talks are a great way for lots of participants to get exposed to lots of content, people, and projects.

The format I’ve seen used to great effect is:

  1. five minute talks (maximum)
  2. demo/deck required (at least one slide if nothing else)
  3. half pre-event sign-ups (with voting if possible), and half day-of sign-ups for presentations

Whatever format the community decides, lightning talks are usually well attended, often light-hearted and/or novel, and a great way to start and/or end the day.

I love lightning talks and we have done them every year at CLS.

This year though we are doing things a little different and will have plenary sessions in the morning and unconference sessions in the afternoon. We believe this will bring some compelling tutorial content in the form of the plenaries and then the awesome unconference material in the afternoons.

Thanks!

Remember that FLOSS Community Metrics meeting is going to take place on Sunday, and if you register, you have the chance to give a lightning talk about the topic (community metrics through OSS tools)
